Fees and Costs
Our attorneys’ hourly rates range from $225 – $300 per hour depending on the attorney and the type of case. We also have staff who will do typing, filing and other similar work on your case at a rate of $50-$100 per hour depending on the type of work performed.
If you are filing a new case with the court, you will have to pay a court filing fee of approximately $150 – $200 depending on the county in which your case is filed. These fees change often.
The cost of a divorce case can vary widely. The more you and your spouse can agree upon and the more cooperative you are with one another and with the attorneys and other professionals involved, the lower the total costs will be.
In a case where there are no children, few assets or debts, and no contested issues, the legal fees will range from a minimum of around $800.00 to several thousand dollars, depending on the complexities and facts of each case. When there are children, there is more paperwork involved, so even if issues regarding the children are settled, there is still a greater cost to complete this additional paperwork.
Some courts require a personal appearance by an attorney to finalize the case, even when everything is settled, others do not. This can add to the total cost because the attorney has to travel to the courthouse in person and wait for the case to be called.
If one spouse doesn’t voluntarily provide financial information or documents, obtaining this information will add to the total cost of your legal fees.
Things like depositions, custody evaluations, home studies, obtaining medical and financial records, etc. will quickly add to the legal fees and costs.
We will provide you with the amount of the retainer deposit we will require at our first meeting. This amount is NOT an estimate of what we think your entire case will cost. It is merely the initial down payment towards future fees that we will require in order to get started on your case.
We do charge for copies, faxes, postage, mileage and long distance as well as other costs that might come up in your case that represent no source of income to our firm. You can help keep these costs down by providing us with our own copies of your original documents so you are not charged for the cost of copying these. If you are willing to receive copies of correspondence and pleadings in your case via e-mail, please let us know and this will help keep the copying and postage costs down.
We do accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover). Please contact us if you have questions about our fees and costs.
